Teijin Aramid Achieves ISCC PLUS Certification, Supporting Sustainability in High-Performance Tire Materials

We are proud to announce that we achieved ISCC PLUS certification. This confirms that our way of sourcing and processing of alternative feedstocks meet internationally recognized sustainability standards. For tire manufacturers, it provides verified access to traceable, lower-impact raw materials without compromising performance.

Supporting tire innovation with certified feedstocks

The certification enables the use of ISCC PLUS-certified raw materials, including bio-based and recycled feedstocks, within a mass balance framework. This approach allows certified and conventional materials to be processed together under controlled conditions, ensuring full traceability and third-party validation.

Twaron®-reinforced tire components produced under ISCC PLUS can help manufacturers:

  • Reduce Scope 3 emissions by integrating certified alternative feedstocks
  • Meet growing regulatory and OEM requirements for circular materials
  • Maintain high mechanical performance across UHP, EV, and commercial tire applications

Sustainability in action

Our latest sustainability report highlights steady progress across operations, including a 28% reduction in the carbon footprint of Twaron® since 2014 and the use of 100% renewable electricity at Dutch production sites. ISCC PLUS certification adds an additional layer of transparency and validation at the material sourcing level.

Customers can now:

  • Make third-party verified sustainability claims for aramid-reinforced tire components
  • Support rolling resistance reduction and lightweight construction goals
  • Participate in emerging circular initiatives such as end-of-life aramid recovery and reuse

These benefits are especially relevant for next-generation tires, where performance, durability, and sustainability must work hand in hand.

“The tire industry is under pressure to reduce emissions and adopt circular materials without compromising safety or performance. This certification helps us support our customers with verifiable, lower-impact solutions that meet both technical and sustainability goals”
Hendrik de Zeeuw, Chief Commercial Officer at Teijin Aramid

Looking ahead

We continue to invest in the development of bio-based Twaron® variants and is exploring closed-loop recycling models in collaboration with industry partners. Our long-term goal is to support a more sustainable, transparent, and high-performance future for the global tire industry.
