Eco-efficiency
By being “eco-efficient”, we aim to optimize the environmental footprint of our solutions, at the lowest cost, and across the total value chain. The best way to assess the eco-efficiency of a product or solution is to undertake a function-based analysis over its whole life cycle, rather than just comparing the raw materials required for its manufacture. The benefits of “going green” may surprise you!
Going green saves money!
The “green” solution often improves efficiency over the total life cycle, it can also often reduce the cost of the raw materials, other resources needed and the costs during use. Both manufacturers and end consumers profit in this case.
Customer Benefit Model (CBM)
To compare solutions according to their function over the total value chain, both ecologically and financially, Teijin Aramid has developed its Customer Benefit Model (certified to ISO14040/14044), an eco-efficiency based analysis tool. The model compares all the required raw materials and other resources, their required quantities, and then evaluates the differences during the use phase, the estimated durability of the product, its performance, and its cost-efficiency. Our sustainability efforts in this field have been recognized by several prestigious parties, such as Frost & Sullivan and The jury of the EcoBalance conference.
To take a specific example, a tire carcass with Twaron and PET as reinforcement is greener and less costly on raw materials compared to a bio-based Rayon tire carcass. In addition, it also allows the vehicle to run more efficiently in the use phase.
Together with our value chain partners and customers, a CBM analysis can be executed to develop business cases, focusing on the differences between solutions with the same function. Region-specific variables are taken into account. By calculating together with our chain partners, the results are accepted and used by the parties involved.
