Waste: landfill and incineration both down in 2025
Landfill waste decreased in 2025 to 670 ton, continuing the downward trend from 2024. This improvement at FZQ was driven by active cost saving and waste reduction initiatives that prioritize material diversion from landfill. Recycled waste decreased to 9.646 tons in 2025 compared to 12.104 ton in 2024. The reduction reflects the discontinuation of the NMP recycle stream from Kleefsewaard to Delfzijl, a direct consequence of stopping JetSpun Pulp production.
This stream had contributed significantly to our recycled volumes and was a valuable internal recovery loop. Incineration decreased overall to 5806 ton from 7039 ton in 2024, despite operational challenges. At the Delfzijl factory, incineration volumes increased due to the large-scale maintenance stop, which generated additional waste streams requiring disposal. However, this was offset by improved performance at the Emmen site, where incineration declined following the operational disruptions at the sulphuric acid plant that characterized 2024. Ongoing focus on process stability and waste recyclability improvements will support further reductions in incineration volumes.
Waste management outlook
Future improvements are expected as normal operations resume at all sites and ongoing waste reduction projects mature across our facilities.
