We recognise the increasing importance of sustainability as a key element of doing business. Concerns about sustainability have a broad impact on our decision-making in manufacturing, marketing and sales, as well as on our investments, our new product development, our choice of suppliers and on our approach to health and safety. We are encouraged in our sustainability efforts by our parent company Teijin Ltd., which is listed on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index.
Our ambition is to be the sustainability leader in our industry. In order to achieve this, we have established a program based on two strategies:
- Reduction of our eco-footprint (including CO2 emissions): In part through the use of eco-efficiency analyses, we will reduce the footprint of our own processes and throughout the value chain.
- Establish our reputation as sustainability leader: We will strengthen our reputation for sustainability among important stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, NGOs, the community and other partners. Because we see sustainability as a joint responsibility of the value chain, we want to establish close cooperation with our customers. We also want to be a good employer that is aware of sustainable issues and how they affect all of its employees.
These strategies are underpinned by two sets of sustainability guidelines: the first is set out by Teijin Ltd., and the second by The Natural Step, a non-profit environmental education organization working to build an ecologically and economically sustainable society. The Natural Step’s guidelines are based on the understanding that people are making ever-greater demands than the earth has available in terms of natural resources and water and air purification. In the coming years, we will review and continuously improve our processes based on these guidelines.
